BENEFITING: DENVER GRACE AND LIFE
This Christmas Season Let’s Keep Those who are Less Fortunate in our Hearts and Minds.
Robert is a young father of four kids and married to Annette who is stricken with bone marrow cancer. His son, Jesse, has been attending my Sunday school class for maybe a month and I first met Robert after one of our Spanish services. At our Thanksgiving Banquet he came back overwhelmed by his circumstances of unemployment, sickness, and poverty. We prayed together and I gave him my telephone number.
On Thursday night, December 6, 2013, Robert called me about his court appointment taking place early the next morning and the possibility that he would be incarcerated 90 days for a violation of his parole. He pleaded with me to help as he was unable to pay the rent this month and he fears that his family will be evicted and homeless. I said I would verify what he said with his landlord and talk with him again in the morning.
I spoke with his landlord and she confirmed that he owes $825 for the month of December. I spoke with his wife Annette and she confirmed my fears… Robert was taken away to jail. I prayed with her and asked if I could visit with her at her home. She said yes and I immediately visited her (just across the street from the church) and snapped the above photo of her and her two sons, Robert Jr., and Phillip. Their daughter Sasha is at school and Jesse is serving out a 45 day sentence in Juvie for what sounds like a case of being with the wrong person at the wrong time. Annette is unable to work due to her sickness and receives disability.
God has given me peace about everything that I have heard and seen. The poverty and sickness in their home were obvious. It looks and sounds like a situation where they have just been trapped. But God uses these situations to bring us back to Him.
I explained to both Annette and the Landlord that I will set up a website to try to help them. If we receive $825 I will make a check out to 1st Choice Properties and personally deliver it and if anything comes in above that I will give it all to Annette. So I pray that you have both the confidence and compassion to help save this family from being evicted this Christmas.
Normally, we try to help families in need but this time the need requires more than what we have. But God’s arm is not shortened to save. He has more than enough resources within His Church.
Thank you for being God’s hands and feet and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
