BENEFITING: EXTENDED HANDS FOOD BANK
For the past 6 years I've had the joy of Christmas shopping for my daughter Kylie. I was a single mom trying to provide her with everything she wanted and more. Every year it was always a struggle to come up with the funds to do so but it always seemed to work itself out. Christmas would come, her face would light up from all the gifts she received and this brought joy to me as a parent. As she grew older I realized that she didn't play with toys as often and I would find gifts still in the packaging they came in 6 months later. At that moment I realized that I was no longer going to spend money on meaningless items for her. In fact, I wasn't going to buy her anything this Christmas but instead give her the best gift I can as her mother. The gift of helping others and to teach her what it means to be selfless.
My goal in the next 35 days is to raise $1,000.00 for our local community food bank. Not only do I want to raise money but also collect donations in the form of canned goods and used items. In the last fiscal year the local food bank was able to provide 3,240 pre-packaged food boxes monthly to feed over 10,000 individuals. Out of those people, 90% live in our community and as a family we would like to help them. The two of us, along with my 3 step-children will be going out in our community asking for donations. I will upload pictures of our journey and hope that we can make a difference this season.
I know I may not reach my personal goal but that will not stop me from trying my best. I want to instill in my daughter along with my step-children good values and I want them to know that Christmas isn't all about their wants/needs.
Arizona has a 2013 tax credit program. The program gives you a double tax break on a state level as well as a federal level. $400 is the limit.
I thank you in advance for your help!
