Christophers Fight To Save His Heart
Organized by: Cassandra Miller-Hart
Christopher is a young, energetic, athletic, 28 year old who suddenly has to face the possibility of a heart transplant. Starting in October Christopher had been ill off and on. Viruses that he was put on antibiotics to treat. Each time he fought through and kept up with a fitness routine of lifting weights and hiking mountains in the hopes of fighting off what his body was telling him. Even though he was having a hard time breathing he kept pushing himself past the obstacle. What Christopher didn't realize is that his heart was enlarging and his body was filling with fluid that was making it difficult to breathe. Beginning of January he was taken to Urgent Care by his mother Tracy. He was immediately admitted to Thunderbird Hospital where he received the diagnosis Cardiomyopathy. The Cardiologist believes that Christopher's illness in October caused his immune system to become confused and attack his heart. Christopher is without insurance as he had just switched jobs. The hospital has assigned a case worker to help Christopher manage his care. Applying for AHCCCS was the first step which he was denied. The next step has been getting him covered by Obama Care. The Cardiologist has also requested help from the Mayo Clinic to see if they will take him in as a charity case. His Obama Care will not take effect until February 1st and the Mayo Clinic is reviewing his case. If the Mayo agrees to help him we are told that they typically pick up 30% of the cost. It is unknown at this time if he will be allowed to return to work while he waits for the process to take place. As it is in the early stages of diagnosis the doctors have told Christopher that they will do what it takes to save his heart. The funds from this campaign will be used to pay medical bills that have so far occurred while he has been uninsured and moving forward the cost for Obama Care. It will also be used to make his mortgage payment while he is out of work. Anything will help and every dollar will add up. His mother Tracy will be caring for him until he is stable on his own. If you know Tracy you know what a giving soul she has. This campaign effort to help Christopher will also lesson the burden she feels as his mother with her strong determination to keep her son alive.
