Stuff About Me:

Prior to starting this position, I reflected on my time in the game of lacrosse.  When I broke down the journey I have witnessed thousands of times, I came to realize there are four phases to the lacrosse journey.  Those 4 phases are the discovery phase, the exploration phase, the development phase, and the giving back phase.

The first phase, discovery, which takes place when someone, usually a friend or family member, places a lacrosse stick in the hands of this young athlete.  From there the challenges and adventures begin.  This young athlete runs home to ask their parents if they can play, there is a camp or league coming up.  In this modern internet era, a quick youtube search will show what the game looks like.

The second phase, exploration, is the gateway to all things lacrosse.  This new lacrosse athlete, with a stick in his hand, now has the opportunity to participate in the greatest team sport.  Entry through this gate happens in on of two ways, leagues, and camps.  Youth leagues are extremely important to the growth of the game, and camps are just as vital.  Phase one and two are crucial to growth and expansion of this game of lacrosse.

The third phase, development.  Some would argue this phase should be called mastery.  I stand by this name of development, due to the fact that development continues on a never-ending process as an athlete.  This young athlete has developed a passion and hunger for lacrosse.  The speed, the physicality, the competition, the drive to obtain personal goals, and learning to work as a teammate.  The development phase only exists after the first and second phases have been completed.

The fourth phase, giving back.  It is often the case that an individual can have one foot in both phase three and phase four.  If lacrosse has had any positive impact on the life of the athlete this is exactly where they should be.  Giving back as a coach, as an official, as an administrator, and as a financier are all a part of this fourth and final phase.

My request of you, if lacrosse has impacted your life, if lacrosse has impacted the development your child's life, please consider making a financial contribution to this project.  As I mentioned previously, the individual lacrosse journey does not happen without phase one and phase two.  Without camps, like the one Homegrown Lacrosse is trying to establish, the growth rate of lacrosse does not continue at its current rate.
