Chromebooks for Chelsea
Organized by: Sarah Kantrowitz
As one of our students once reminded me, "The children of today are the adults of tomorrow, and they need our help."
That student was correct, and our children need YOUR help to acquire essential computer literacy skills they need for high school and college. At Excel Academy 80% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and we believe that their zip-code and background should not determine the quality of their education, or the resources they can access. By acquiring a class set of Chromebooks, each class of 5th through 8th graders will be able to learn to type fluently, research online, and code in HTML (at least the basics!).
They'll use these skills to create incredible essays and projects for their classes, contribute to our school newspaper, yearbook, or access the curriculum. In more affluent school districts their peers have access to state-of-the-art computer labs, and many have been practicing with computers from a young age, and our students need to catch up so they can show the world their bright personalities and talented minds in every field.
