BENEFITING: Project Woman Of Springfield And Clark County
EVENT DATE: Jun 04, 2018
Help survivors in your community by donating to Project Woman's effort to install a therapeutic Serenity Garden on the grounds of Chrysalis Manor.
Since 1996, Project Woman has operated Chrysalis Manor to help survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault transition from an abuse situation to permanent housing. The transitional housing program provides residents with survivor education, counseling services, case management, and housing, in order to gain increased independence and self-sufficiency. These programs are tremendously valuable to many of the residents at Chrysalis, but Project Woman is aware that there is still room to improve.
Recognizing that many survivors may not be ready for a commitment to ongoing therapy, Project Woman offers services which allow survivors to be safe, feel safe, and begin to heal. To enhance these services, Project Woman proposes designing and creating a Serenity Garden on the transitional housing property, which will have a significant impact on the experience of the survivors the agency serves. Recent scientific research indicates that just three to five minutes spent looking at a natural landscape can start reducing anger, anxiety, and pain while inducing relaxation.
Project Woman hopes to bring the healing powers of therapeutic green spaces to survivors by establishing a Serenity Garden on the Chrysalis grounds. The garden will be readily accessible to all Chrysalis Program participants, will provide enough privacy to promote a feeling of escape from the outside world without compromising survivors’ safety.
