Chuck's 15 Yards Foundation Inc.
Chuck Harcourt has been a staple in the Basking Ridge community where I live for years. I have coached his son in Wrestling for several years and gotten to know their family and their struggles.
Whether keeping score for his sons’ Little League baseball teams, volunteering for his daughter’s cheer squads, or, cleaning up trash at the football fields after
youth games, Chuck never hesitated to offer help. He was co-founder of Ridge Youth Sports, Inc. in 2005 and spent days upon days, months upon months, and
years upon years contributing his time and energy to provide opportunities for the children of this community. He never turned down a request to volunteer his time and never asked for anything in return.
In 2008, Chuck had a heart attack and was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition. He underwent successful heart valve replacement surgery and returned to work after months of recuperation. In April of 2012 Chuck contracted an infectious disease that attacked his heart and caused the new valve to tatter, necessitating another replacement. This time however, the recovery did not go as well and he suffered a stroke at the stem of his brain. Although he does not have full use of his right hand, he had a miraculous recovery. Unfortunately, in September, just as Chuck was feeling ready to move forward, he was diagnosed with a very rare form of liver cancer that has spread to his kidneys and rib cage. Throughout the years Chuck has not always been able to work to support his family and his wife has only a part time job at a pre-school so that she can be home to take care of Chuck and their four children. The loss of income and cost of medical treatments and doctors visits have created a financial burden for the family. The Harcourts and Chuck’s doctors have now decided to treat this rare and incurable cancer with a new drug that has some rough side effects for Chuck. The drug costs $4,000 a month and is not covered by insurance. Needless to say, trying to keep a home, support a family of 6, put two children through college and keep Chuck healthy is not (and has not been) an easy road for the Harcourts.
This incurable cancer is causing many financial hardships for the Harcourt family and various fund raisers are taking place to assist them, including a golf outing this coming June 23 in Basking Ridge, NJ. Please consider contributing in honor of “Chuck’s 15 Yards Foundation” to the City of Hope Your gift, regardless of the amount, will provide help the scores of family, friends and others battle and find cures for cancer.
