Hello Friends & Family! My name is Cindy Popajohn, and it is with great honor that I will be representing Team V and The V Foundation in the 2016 New York City Marathon.
As most of you know, this will be my second year running this amazing race. In November of 2015, I completed the grueling 26.2 mile challenge with great pride knowing that I had accomplished a longtime personal goal - one that had been on the top of my running bucket list for many years! It was truly a magical moment for me when I crossed the finish line in Central Park on that perfect fall evening. However, as I reflected back on the race of my life it dawned on me that the victory was not in the finish but rather in the steps it took to get there. Miles of hard work and determination were sprinkled with waves of pain and moments of doubt, but with every stride I had hope and with each turn there was a new face reminding me that I could do it.
This year, I will return to the streets of New York to join Team V as we raise support and awareness of a different battle of wills - one that is fought daily by those facing cancer. As a family member, a friend and a caregiver, I have witnessed first hand how cruel this disease can be to those who fall victim. The daily challenges they face are both mentally and physically disabling. The hope of a cure is the drive that keeps them fighting, and The V Foundation is focused on finding that cure. With every step I will run for those who cannot, and with every mile I will strive to be that face in the crowd that encourages those fighting to never give up. I will be dedicating my race to my mother and father who were the epitome of strength and determination during their courageous battles.
Please join me in the effort by supporting Team V and The V Foundation. Many thanks in advance for your support. Together, I know, we can make strides to eradicate this heartbreakingly cruel disease.
