When I was 10 years old, a "New York City Marathon" poster made it to my home in the Canary Islands. I remember staring at it thinking "I am going to run NYC when I am old". On April 27th, 2011, my childhood dreams materialized wshen I found out that I've just won the ING New York City Marathon lottery. I don't have word to express how I felt during this announcement. This is the top item in my Life List.
Another item in this Life List is to spend a week at an elephant sanctuary. I always love elephants. Recently, a friend of mine visited the Elephant Nature Park in Thailand and brought back beautiful pictures. She also introduced me to the Friends of Asian Elephants (FAE), the first hospital for elephants founded by Soraida Salwala.
The hospital has cared for hundreds of elephants that have been abused in the illegal logging trade. These elephants have been given amphetamines to make them work faster or have been crippled by land mines left to clear rugged terrain. Soraida and her staff treat elephants with varying ailments, whether natural or due to their contact with humans.
Most recently, they are trying to come up with money to buy out 3 elephants in order to rescue them from abusive environment. One of them was wild caught as a baby and have been in abusive environment all his lives. The other 2 are mother and a dwarf baby who would be separated and used to work in abusive working conditions if not rescued.
Help me raise funds to accomplish the impossible, to complete my first marathon and help this hospital.
