BENEFITING: Solar Village Project Inc
Solar Village Project is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to bringing solar power solutions to remote villages in Africa and India.
There are 1.3 billion people living without access to electricity. Solar Village Project is working to change this sad reality one village at a time. We have already successfully brought solar power to two remote villages in India, Gauterine and Kihare. Now we are expanding into Africa.
Our first village will be Cisse' Mass, which is located in Northern Senegal and is the ancestrl home to our Africa team leader, Makhtar Drame'. Cisse' Masse has 65 homes and no electricity. Because there is no electricity in Cisse' Masse the children are forced to study by camp fires or kerosene lamps, both of which are poor sources of light and hazardous to their health. Also, because there is no access to electricity the people have to travel long distances just to charge their cell phones in order to stay in touch with the outside world.
Solar Village Project will provide each household with a solar lighting system and cell phone charger. To do this we need to raise $10,000 dollars. This will cover the costs of supplying each home its own solar home lighting system as well as powering the village school with it's own independent solar power system capable of running computers, fans and lighting.
WHY YOU SHOULD DONATE:
Our project implementation model is highly effective. By giving each home an individual solar power system we empower the villagers to take ownership and responsibility for their own energy access.
The units we provide are capable of providing power for many years.
Without access to electricity, kerosene is used for home lighting. It is a dangerous, unhealthy, ineffective and costly alternative to solar power.
Our team of local volunteers ensure that any problems with the solar home power systems are quickly fixed. This keeps the lights running in the villages and gradually promotes a lifestyle in which access to solar power is the norm.
