1 Month to go!
February 20, 2017
I am currently a first-year AmeriCorps Volunteer with City Year. I work at 93rd St Elementary School in Watts, LA with 5th grade students. I spend most of the day in the classroom tutoring and coaching students on math and english. The other half of my time is spent in small group or 1 on 1 planned interventions, where I implement session plans I have written that are oriented to help students get back on grade level. In addition, I work with certain students on behavior mentoring, where I coach them to grow into leaders. We also run an after-school program that incorporates lesson plans, homework help, enrichment lessons, and outdoor play time. I came to City Year because I wanted to do a year of service and I wanted to work with youth. It is safe to say City Year has exceeded my expectations.

1 in 4 students don't graduate. We want to change that. Help our runners cross the finish line so we can help more students cross the stage.
