City Island Rowing would love your support to make sure that our wonderful athletes have the equipment necessary to achieve their dreams. It really is that simple. In order to keep our program fees as low as possible, our capital equipment is purchased from fundraising efforts like this one. Capital equipment includes rowing shells, oars, ergs, coach launches, trailer, etc. These are expensive items. A new Resolute 8+, for example, is made from high modulus carbon fibre and costs around $45,000.00 .
Our athletes chose City Island Rowing because they are passionate about their sport. To a person, the sport of rowing has had a profound positive effect. Our athletes work exceptionally hard to be regionally, nationally and internationally competitive - along the way learning some of life's greatest lessons... that team work, hard work, discipline and sacrifice are the surest route achieving your goals.
We are thrilled that this ergathon is driven by the athletes themselves. Each athlete will seek out donations and sponsorships in support of their upcoming "ergathon", Sunday December 13th. Each athlete will row for 90 minutes on the indoor rowing machine (erg), and will likely rack up between 15,000 m and 20,000 m during this time. Sponsorships are per 1000m - so if an athlete rows for 18,000m and is sponsored $3 per 1000m, the amount owing will be $54.00 . Donors will support the effort with a fixed amount ($75.00 for example), regardless of how far an athlete rows. City Island Rowing is a registered non profit organization. All funds (donations and sponsorships) are fully tax deductible. Thank you for your support, together we are making a phenomenal difference.
