My name is Kevin Fish and I served as a Corps Member with City Year Boston from 2011-2012. I spent the year at English High School, in Jamaica Plain, MA alongside 11 other teammates. During my year of service, I worked with 9th grade students by providing in-class and after school support. It was truly a privilege to serve with an organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap and decreasing the high school dropout rate. I believe that leveling the educational playing field in the United States is my generation's duty and I plan on devoting my life to public service.
In 2013, like most Marathon Mondays, I watched the runners pass through Cleveland Circle on Beacon Street. Along with a good friend, a former fellow City Year teammate, I caught the marathon fever and jumped into the race as a "bandit" runner (or someone not registered for the race. My friend and I made it to mile 25.7 when the bombs went off on Boylston Street.
We stood there, with hundreds of runners, unsure of what was happening. We decided that our only option was to run home to let everyone know we were okay. Since then, I haven't stopped running. Boston 2015 will be my third marathon and I feel honored that I am able to run for such a phenomenal organization. Please help me support Boston Public School students.
