CJ is doing great!

Thank you for the donations so far! We have enough for the down payment!! CJ is doing great in class. She's really picking it up quickly and See More

THE STORY:

As many of you know, CJ has had a rough year. It started with a move to a new school which was an exciting time, and quickly turned into a nightmare because of bullies at school, depression, self harm, and the thought of suicide. After multiple hospitalizations, CJ stabilized and started to feel better about herself. During spring break, she got a treat, a new hair style with braids. She felt good on the inside and pretty on the outside. Bullies will be bullies, and on her second day back to school, one of them taunted her for her "pretty hair", punched her and pulled half of the braids out of her hair. After this event, a few more kids joined the group in teasing CJ, including a boy who lives in our neighborhood. He started teasing her for getting beat up, and calling her ugly every time he saw her. One day he rode by our house, saw her in the house smiling and screamed "hey ugly" as he rode by. Her whole mood changed. She is doing much better, but still struggles with depression because she has not yet learned how to stand up for herself. I spoke to the boy's mother who assured me she would make it stop. It did, for 2 weeks, and then it came back with a vengeance when school yearbooks came out. He teased her about her weight because she's so much bigger than he beginning of school (a side effect of Seroquel is weight gain) and again, teased her about her hair. She told him to shut up, and he responded by pushing her and threatening to fight her when they got off the bus. Thankfully her sister was there waiting and nothing happened. I reported it to the school, but CJ didn't want to speak out against the boy because she is afraid of him and if he got in trouble was afraid it would get worse. I remember how a summer course in martial arts helped me and a local school had a special running so I thought maybe she could try it and it could help her build the confidence she needs to stand up to bullies and defend herself if necessary. She is doing very well in the trial class and wants to continue but it is costly and as much as I want to make it work, I just don't have the financial ability to do it. So here I am, reaching out to all of you. Many of you on my FB page have seen the updates over the last year, so you know how hard it's been for her. I truly believe this will make a huge difference for her and has multiple benefits beyond battling bullies, including self discipline & focus which she needs also as she has ADHD. So friends, any amount you could help out with would be appreciated and if you could share the fundraiser too, that would be great! I appreciate it and I know CJ will too. The program costs $199 down and $175 a month for 12 months. I chose this site because they don't put a limit on the time for donations so if we don't meet our goal to pay it in full right away, I can keep this open and make the monthly payments as donations come in and CJ can continue with her classes.
