Claire's Half IronMan For Hope
Organized by: Claire Dougherty
Half Ironman for Hope Finishers!
May 13, 2016
EVENT DATE Apr 09, 2016
As some of you are aware, I recently signed up for a Half IronMan that will take place on Saturday, April 9th, 2016.
What is a half ironman you ask? A Half ironman consists of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and a 13.1 mile run.
I know what some of you are thinking.. 'Why in the world Claire Dougherty?!" While the other half are thinking.. "Of course she is." Well, after graduating and retiring from being a college athlete committing 30+ hours a week to solely field hockey at Cal (GO BEARS!), I've had to find other ways to continue to challenge myself physically and mentally. Following graduation in December 2012, I've been fortunate to have participated in and completed a Tough Mudder in Tahoe, 2 Half Marathons, the Giant Race 10K, Bay to Breakers 12K, Ragnar Napa, and recently completed my first ever Olympic Triathlon. These events have continued to push me to my limits and test my discipline, drive, and abilities. I'm excited for this challenge, and am pleased that my ambition has been contagious to several other people who have also signed up for this event in April. These other people who have registered started off saying, "she's crazy!" And while that may be somewhat true, now they're crazy with me.
Over the next months leading up to the race I'll be training rigorously to compete in the half ironman, and while doing so I'll be fundraising for a charity: The City of Hope.
"City of Hope is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people with cancer, diabetes and other serious illnesses. Our mission is to transform the future of health care by turning science into a practical benefit, hope into reality. We accomplish this by providing outstanding care, conducting innovative research and offering vital education programs focused on eliminating these diseases."
I have a tremendous goal in mind: raising $3,000 for City of Hope. This charity hits near and dear to many of our hearts, and I'm honored to be continuing to raise awareness and be able to make a contribution to City of Hope through this event. The money raised will go towards cancer prevention, treatment, and a cure for cancer. Let's make a difference together!
Thanks for taking the time out of the busy day to read, and I appreciate the help and support towards my goal and this cause.
