BENEFITING: AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY CALIFORNIA
EVENT DATE: Aug 05, 2012
HOURS PLEDGED: 80
Mileage Tracker: 600
I am organizing a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society as part of my preparation for my first-ever triathlon taking place on Saturday, July 28 in Pleasanton, California. Unfortunately many people I know and care about have been impacted by cancer in the last several months since I started training for this triathlon, including my grandfather who sadly passed away in May. I still fondly remember calling my grandfather every day in the months of April and May to see how he was doing and he would always ask how my training was going. Since his passing, my grandfather has remained one of the most motivating forces for me to get out there and keep training-- especially on big swim days!-- and raising money for cancer research as part of my race seemed like a nice way to dedicate my efforts to him.
Any donation-- no matter how big or small-- is greatly appreciated. Two ideas I came up with for donating are below:
- (1) You can donate by component; there are three portions of the triathlon (first I will be swimming, then biking, and finally running) so you can donate $x per component, or
- (2) You can donate by the mile. I am competing in a sprint triathlon, which consists of an 800 meter swim (1/2 mile), a 14-mile bike ride, and a 5k run (3.1 miles), which rounds out at 17.6 miles, so you can donate $x per mile.
On the flip side, if you would prefer not to participate in a monetary way, any donation of support or encouragement is great, too. :) I also wanted to offer the option of donating in the name of someone you know or care about who has also felt the wide-reaching impact of cancer. Just as Baba’s memory has helped me maintain my drive during training, I am sure many of you are inspired by people you know who have contended with and/or survived cancer and I would love to celebrate them as well. Just include their name or names and I will add them to the dedication list accompanying my donation.
Thank you so much for your consideration. I appreciate your help in making this race a memorable endeavor!
