2016 Scholarship Awards

Claremont Manor is a retirement community located in the San Gabriel Valley in the eastern-most part of Los Angeles County, California. We are a very diverse community surrounded by pockets of dire poverty, wealth, and upper middle-class. The City of Claremont itself is home to a well-known consortium of colleges. Every year the Manor Club, a 501(c)3 non-profit, has been able to distribute four to eight very modest scholarships to employees who meet requirements of grades, work habits, and career goals. Most of our dining room servers, kitchen and housekeeping staff, and Care Center aides are drawn from minority populations and those who go on to Junior College and beyond are often the first ones in their families to achieve higher education. The ones that receive scholarships want to be nurses, teachers, lawyers, counselors, social workers, and other professions in which they will be able to give back to their communities. Last year we were able to give four scholarships of $750 each to qualified applicants, the most we have ever been able to give. It has long been our wish to be able to give more support to those who serve us so well at close to minimum wage. Community rules prevent us from giving individual gifts so scholarship funding must be done through our Resident Manor Club. Every donated penny will go into a duly organized scholarship fund administered by Pacific Homes Foundation, Inc., and will directly benefit the qualified employees of Claremont Manor, Claremont, California.
