BENEFITING: The V Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Earlier this year, I lost one of my best friends to cancer. Miguel was 35 years old, and he was one of the best men I knew. He was kind, giving, and sacrificed everything for his family and friends. If you spoke to him, he'd probe with questions to find out how he can help you reach your dream. That's just the kind of man he was.
In his memory, I decided to run the New York City Marathon this November and raise money for cancer research. I felt compelled to combine my love for running with doing something that honors his memory. Running is therapeutic for me. It's been my way to reflect, meditate, and make sense of the suffering we confront. I'm inspired every day to realize every journey we take begins with a single step.
Every step I take in training between now and November 6 will be in his memory, and every step I take on November 6 will be a reminder of the strength he embodied in life and in spirit.
