As Peace Corps volunteers living and working in small rural communities we are able to experience the realities, the good and bad, of being a local.
One of these realities is garbage everywhere for many reasons; lack of garbage bins, lack of information, lack of support from the local government and lack of opportunities for the reuse of "garbage". Our focus with this project is to provide communities with more information about how to properly dispose of garbage, the effect littering has on the environment, provide opportunities for locals to reuse garbage as a form of income, and educate youth on proper waste disposal and recycling techniques through workshops and other activities.
We are partnering up with a local waste disposal company to provide workshops in communities where Peace Corps volunteers are located. In addition, we want to provide bracelets (think livestrong) for kids that participate in our workshops thus making them "Guardian del Medioambiente". By wearing the bracelet they commit to protecting and informing other members of the community about proper waste disposal.
So we, Michael Band and Victor Kasper, are asking for your help in raising funds to purchase 1,000 bracelets and 200 trash cans to help CLEAN CARTAGENA.
