Clean Up South Beach
Organized by: Meaghan Suhich
I had recently moved to the South Florida area and being an open water swimmer I was ecstatic to train out in the ocean. One of my first training sessions was out at south beach. Needless to say due to a massive overload of jellies I ended up walking the beach! That's when I noticed truly how bad things were on south beach, environmentally. Trash was everywhere and not just on the beach it was overflowing into the ocean. It upset me to see such a great place being destroyed by our waste. I found a garbage bag and started picking up the area. Every since then I make an effort to go out there and help clean up. That's when I realized that setting up a bi-weekly event called Clean Up South Beach to get others involved with the clean up could be beneficial to not just the environment and the animals that live there but the community itself. Clean Up South Beach is asking for donations to help supply gloves, bags, water and wristbands for all those that will participate at each event. From what I can tell there is no event like this for south beach at this time and considering people from all over the world come to visit this beach I think it would be great for travelers to see that this earth is EVERYONE's job to help keep it as beautiful as it can be. Our first event will be January 24th, 2016 at noon located at Ocean Drive and 12th st, Miami Beach, Fl.
