HISTORIC DEVELOPMENTS IN YOUTH CLIMATE ACTION

THE STORY:

OUR YOUTH AND ATTORNEYS HAVE POSITIONED OUR EFFORTS FOR HISTORIC CLIMATE RECOVERY ACTION

On behalf of youth around the world representing all present and future generations, OUR CHILDREN’S TRUST has organized lawsuits against federal and state governments for failure to meet constitutional and public trust obligations to protect the atmosphere and stabilize the climate. Additionally, we support youth in public education, film, state rulemaking, and local legislative efforts.

As a result of all of these efforts, a perfect storm is now brewing in our youth climate recovery efforts.  We just received word from the Oregon Court of Appeals cementing the important premise that the judiciary must declare what sort of atmospheric protection is required by law that other branches of government must then implement. This is a big success for Oregon youth and youth around the nation. Check out the press release here and media coverage here.

And with the support of law professors from across the country, our federal case is well-positioned to head to the Supreme Court on the question of whether there is a federal public trust obligation.

In Eugene, Oregon, youth are on their way to getting the first-ever local law passed to set emission reduction targets based on 350 ppm of CO2.  We are replicating this effort to enact local climate recovery plans in other communities around the country.

All of these developments position our youth-centered climate recovery efforts closer than ever to the powerful judicial relief these youth seek for all present and future generations. And they need your help now more than ever, as they find their way closer to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Please support this strategic youth-driven climate recovery effort with a tax-deductible donation to OUR CHILDREN'S TRUST.   And, if you haven't already, SIGN THE PLEDGE OF SUPPORT for these youth and the legal right to a healthy atmosphere and stable climate

Thank you so much for your support and interest!

At this important time, we are pleased to present OUR MOST RECENT FILM. Featuring internationally renowned scientist Dr. James Hansen and bold environmental legal scholar Professor Mary Wood, this 10th film in our series explains the legal strategy behind our cases and the scientific need for immediate judicial action.

Check www.ourchildrenstrust.org for more detail about all of these efforts.
