Climb High: Team Kenny Speirs
Organized by: Jamie Davidson
EVENT DATE Nov 09, 2014
Kenny Speirs began running marathons when he was 10 1/2 years old and he never stopped. In fact, he ran his first marathon at 10 years old in jeans!
Kenny passed away last year after suffering a heart attack while running the Berkeley Half Marathon. This has been an unimaginable loss for his family, friends and anyone that met him. This year, our team, Climb High: Team Kenny Speirs, will run the race for him and in his memory.
Climb High was an invitation, a challenge, a personal motto of sorts emblazoned across the chest of one of Kenny's favorite tee shirts in the NYU days. We chose it because it very simply expresses a feeling that we all experienced in Kenny's presence, that urgent call to do more, experience more, think more--climb higher over whatever obstacles or opportunities we encountered as we journeyed.
Kenny was a lover of literature and books, and we are raising money for the Washington Elementary School library, a school that one of his son's attends and one just graduated from. We would love nothing more than for his love of books to be passed on to the Washington Elementary School community, a community that he cared so much about.
Please help us Climb High for Kenny.
