Organized by: Beth Bowers
EVENT DATE Jan 14, 2017
On January 14, 2017 we (Brian and Beth Bowers & Tom and Kristin Butler) are embarking on a 3-week journey to Tanzania, East Africa. We are spending the first half of our trip with Adam and Katy Hacias (and their kiddos, Maddie and Francis) in Tabora, where they live and serve as local missionaries. We will shadow their work, traveling with them to visit the village communities with whom they work, and help them build a basketball court in their neighborhood. We will bring a bit of “home” to them in Tanzania, providing encouragement and support.
The second leg of our journey involves a bit more adventure! The four of us, plus Katy Hacias, will be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro while in Tanzania. Our climb takes place over an 8-day span (6 ½ days up, 1 ½ days down). What’s it like to summit 19,341 ft Kilimanjaro?
“The gradient up to now has been steep, but this last scree slope takes the biscuit; in fact, it takes the entire tin. In just about everybody’s opinion this is the hardest part of the climb, when the cold insinuates itself between the layers of your clothes, penetrating your skin, chilling your bones and numbing the marrow until finally, inevitably, it seems to freeze your very soul. The situation seems desperate at this hour and you can do nothing; nothing except keep going.”
YEEEEEES! With your help, prayers, and well-wishes…..we’ve got this, you guys!
We will be covering Katy’s expenses for this once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we need to raise $12,000 for the five of us to climb. We are, of course, chipping in our own money for this adventure, but we'd like to, at minimum, get Katy's expenses covered.
We have already begun fundraising for our plane tickets and other mission-related expenses, and we are incredibly grateful for the support we have received thus far.
We want to cast our nets wide, and we are grateful for the breadth of social media to spread the word to all of our friends. If you would like to help us “Climb Kili” by donating (any amount helps!) to our fund we would be SUPER GRATEFUL!
But even more, we want to spread the word about what we are up to, what we have been training and preparing for, and what we are looking forward to come January.
We love you all, friends! THANK YOU!
