BENEFITING: Discover Outdoors Foundation
EVENT DATE: Feb 10, 2017
As an outdoor lover that's always up for a good challenge, I’ve decided to climb Mt Kilimanjaro in support of the Discover Outdoors Foundation, a non-profit in NYC that I’m excited to be involved with. The DOF seeks to improve education for under-served urban youth in NYC by providing life-changing outdoor experiences. The DOF's goal is to create curious, engaged and passionate leaders through outdoor exploration.
Curiosity and a sense of adventure are traits that were formed in my childhood years and shape the person I am today. I was always exploring outside in California or playing some sort of sport but not all kids have the same opportunities. Outdoor adventure has made me more curious and passionate about the world, pushed me outside my comfort zone and challenged me in the best possible ways. Donating to DOF will help introduce kids to outdoor adventures such as hiking, snowshoeing, rock climbing and camping for the first time. Many of these kids have never even had the chance to leave NYC and envisioning them summiting a mountain first the first time, conquering their fear of heights by rock-climbing or just camping with friends in the mountains is pretty awesome.
A bit more about Kilimanjaro…it’s 5,898 meters up, Africa’s highest peak and tallest freestanding mountain in the world. The climb is an 8 day trek which I’ll be doing with Discover Outdoors. We will be taking the Lemosho Route and summiting Feb 17th.
I'm super excited about this challenge and to fundraise for a great cause!
Thanks so much for your support throughout this journey!!
