BENEFITING: Children's Tumor Foundation
EVENT DATE: Sep 13, 2014
On Saturday, I will climb 5,343 feet to the highest peak in New York State to raise funds for The Children's Tumor Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by the neurofibromatoses (NF). NF is a genetic disorder that causes benign tumors to grow throughout the body and has no cure or permanent treatment.
My (step) sister-in-law is an endurance athlete and former professional musician who has been bravely facing NF since she lost hearing in her right ear from her first brainstem tumor. She had brain surgery in 2009 to remove it and completed her first Ironman only four months after surgery.
More tumors continue to grow on and around her spine, impacting hearing in her left ear and threatening her balance. Still, she continues endurance racing to raise money for NF research and to support the the Children's Tumor Foundation.
Please consider helping Laura and others struggling with NF to stay strong by donating to the Children's Tumor Foundation!
