BENEFITING: SEVA FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Feb 01, 2016
Hi and thanks for visiting! Jeff and I got married on May 1st, 2015 and decided to take a delayed honeymoon in February 2016! We've known we wanted to go on an African safari, so when someone we know heard that's what we were doing he suggested we also look into climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro (because of our interest in "hiking.") Well Mt. Kilimanjaro is more than just a hike, it's a 7 day round-trip climb up to 19,500 feet! “Kili”, is famously called the “Roof of Africa” and is the tallest free standing mountain in the world. Jeff and I decided since we will be ALL THE WAY in Tanzania, this climb is a must! We are very excited (and also a little nervous)!
While doing more research on this climb we learned that many groups do it while raising money for a cause, and we thought "why not us?" So here we are, raising funds for a charity we have come to love, called Seva Foundation. Their headquarters are here in Northern California which has allowed us to personally meet with the Program Directors. They are excited about our climb and grateful for our fundraising efforts! This organization helps fund rural hospitals to provide life-changing eyesight restoration to local adults and children who are blind or need eye surgeries to improve their vision (See the short video on this page for more info). The loss of sight means the loss of ability to work or go to school, increasing the burden on families. We learned that 80% of blindness and visual impairment can be prevented or cured. We challenge you to close your eyes and try living your normal life for just 5 minutes, then imagine your contribution giving the gift of sight to a person in need!
Your tax-deductibe donation to Seva will directly fund operations in the town we will be visiting in Africa (we are working on setting up a face-to-face meeting with the medical staff while we are there). For example, your generousity can fund a cataract surgery (which amazingly only costs $50) or a pediatric procedure curing/preventing blindness (for $150). We have fully vetted this charity and they received 4 out of 4 stars (on Charity Navigator) and almost 90% of their expenses go directly to their programs.
We have a big goal in the next 90 days and that is to raise $7,500! Wouldn't it be amazing if we could fund 150 cataract procedures! Thank you for your consideration and generosity! Jeff and I are so excited to embark on this journey!
