I am 17 years old, live in Australia and have been suffering from Eosinophilic Esophagitis since I was 10 years old. I joined Climb for EE because I was sick of the ongoing suffering and missing out on school, etc. I want to make a difference for me and all others affected by this awful disorder. I am fundraising, raising awareness and climbing with my Mum, Helen.
Please help me to raise funds for further research for the rare eosinophilic allergic digestive disorders.
The ‘Climb for EE’ team will climb the largest free-standing mountain in the world, Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa in July 2014. We intend to raise awareness and necessary funding for research into this disorder. We are 10 brave EE teenagers and 20 non-affected adults and we will scale all of 19,340 feet of Mt Kilimanjaro. It will take 8 days to complete the journey and we will experience all seasons but especially freezing conditions when we reach the Summit.
Although the disorder is being diagnosed at an alarming rate, very little is known about it. It is our goal that this fundraising mission will make a huge difference. We hope to find out more about the disorder and one day find a cure. There is currently no cure for these disorders.
Basically, when I eat, drink or breath in things my auto-immune system thinks that the food is a parasite and tries to attack it but instead it attacks my esophagis, stomach and colon – my esophagis the most. My esophagis becomes rigid causing difficulties with swallowing, and sometimes choking, inflames and ulcerates the esophagis and causes other symptoms like constant nausea, chronic reflux, vomiting, poor appetite, loss of voice, failure to grow and put on weight, headaches, depression and problems sleeping. All of these symptoms are often quite severe and some of them 24/7. This disorder has also caused me some other health issues, one of them which may be a life-long problem.
Please click on the big orange 'button' - 'DONATE TO THIS FUNDRAISER' to help me make a difference.
Note: Donations are in US dollars. All donations will be given to CURED not-for-profit foundation and 100% of the profits will go directly to provide research into this awful disorder.
My goal is to raise $2,500 US dollars but in Australian $s it may be between $2,7K and $3K depending on how the exchange rate travels between now and April next year.
