Climb Kilimanjaro for Lupus -
We are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in September. We want our trip to be a fund raiser to benefit the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA). As you may know, Jody has been battling with Lupus for almost 20 years, which makes endeavors like climbing much more challenging and difficult than you might imagine. She is fortunate to be in temporary remission of the disease and has not had the devastation to her body that others have had. Although Jody looks healthy, she is almost always in pain, on medications and can’t do many things others can. Lupus is a cruel disease and impedes many people from living a normal life, let alone allowing them to fulfill a dream. Therefore, we are taking up this challenge to increase awareness and raise funds for Lupus.
Lupus is a disease that is agonizingly puzzling, physically challenging, complex, and hard to define. Because of that, Lupus is known as the “Cruel Mystery”. The disease adversely effects so many people in so many different ways. It strikes without warning, ravages different parts of the body and its effects can range from being too tired to get out of bed, to kidney failure, neurological impairment and heart disease. Lupus is debilitating and destructive, and can be fatal, yet research on Lupus remains underfunded relative to its scope and devastation. There is no known cause or cure. Lupus effects about 1.5 million people, mainly women and people of color. This is why we need your help in fighting for a cure.
LFA is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through programs of research, education, and advocacy. We have both been active with LFA both locally and nationally for almost 20 years. LFA is the only national force devoted to solving the mystery of lupus, one of the world’s cruelest, most unpredictable and devastating diseases, while giving caring support to those who suffer from its brutal impact. If you would like to learn more go to www.lupus.org.
For Jody climbing Kilimanjaro is one of those childhood dreams we decided to see to fruition. We are both training very hard to be in the best shape possible. Frankly, it will be a challenge, but a fun and meaningful challenge for both of us.
Please donate online to our efforts to solve the cruel mystery with a credit card on this secure web site or by sending a check payable to the Lupus Foundation of America to 2000 L Street, Suite 410, Washington, DC 20036. Please note that your donation is in honor of our climb. No funds that you contribute nor any donations of funds will go to pay any of the expenses for this trip.
As added incentive for your contribution, we will match $1 for each $2 that you donate, for the first $20,000 of donations. So please make a donation.
