BENEFITING: UPLIFT INTERNATIONAL INC
I would like to raise awareness and money to help those struggling with mental health problems in Indonesia. Despite laws being made forty years ago to abolish shackling, around 19,000 patients are still living in chains. They are confined to a tiny space where they eat, sleep, urinate and deficate sometimes never leaving this spot for years.
I have always been passionate about mental healthcare and am amazed at how it seems to be disregarded worldwide.
"Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
I am inspired by the work that people are dedicating their lives to and have decided to support Uplift International, a non profit organisation working towards equality in healthcare accross the archipelago. They are educating children in schools and aiming to introduce more support within communities creating sustainable aid, offering accessible, high quality, available and appropriate healthcare. Many women are unable to get the support that they nees due to gender inequality and poverty which is another main focus of their work. For more information about their work please feel free to ask me questions or you can have a look at their website.
By making a statement like this I am hoping that more people will open their ears and their eyes to the treatment of other members of our global family. By ridding myself from my undue attachment to my hair, I am making an offering to express my gratitude for my many unforgettable memories from my recent travel and attemptig to help those less fortunate than myself.
I found this video to be extremely informative, moving and inspiring - I hope that it will also strike a chord within you.
Thank you for your support and for taking time to visit this page. My hair will very quickly regrow yet the dignity, health and lives of many of these people may never be restored. I have faith that through education, awareness and funding we can make sure that nobody needs be subjected to this treatment again. Thank you everybody -please share and help this small sacrifice of mine make a big impact!!!
