Marla is in the hospital but doing well
November 02, 2016
Marla is a 70+ year old woman in a wheelchair who is homeless in Seattle. She is suppose to be getting dialysis treatments three days a week but has missed her appointments for the past couple of weeks and many of her friends are concerned that she won't be with us much longer. A few of her friends who stay in a shelter asked me if I would be willing to check in on her every once in a while, as she is residing in a very dangerous camp on the outskirts of the Jungle. Despite her precarious situation, she is her own person and I have to respect her life choices and not impose help that she doesn't want upon her. My resolve is to help her in any way that she will allow and make her journey as comfortable as possible. Marla seems happy to get visits from friends and myself, and enjoys telling stories of her past years in Seattle. When I ask her what she needs, she usually says, "oh, just a good book to read". She loves mystery novels in particular. Aside from books... through much persistence I was able to get a short list of other things that would help keep her comfortable, and this is the reason that I am asking for financial assistance. #1 - Cell phone #2 - Propane fueled stove #3 - Food - pretzels, sun chips (french onion), soups (low sodium) #4 - Drinks - Ginger Ale, Sunny D Although she hasn't asked for it, eventually I would also like to get her a better tent that she can wheel herself in and out of, because currently she is in a tiny 2 man tent that she is relying on other campers to get in and out of. Also, if you would like to donate these supplies directly, instead of via cash donation, you are welcome to drop them off at Peter's Place, 901 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA 98144. The entrance is in the back of the building. Tell them it's for Marla.
