I took the plunge and signed up for a 9-day course to become a Certified Lymphedema Therapist, but I really need help paying for the course, the hotel, and the national exam. Lymphedema is a serious disease that can affect cancer patients who have had lymph nodes removed or irradiated during or after cancer surgery such as a mastectomy. The general public, politicians in charge of research funds, even doctors know very little about the disease or how common it is. There are more people with lymphedema than Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, ALS, Parkinson's disease, and AIDS -- combined. I am a mobile massage therapist specializing in oncology massage and lymphatic drainage therapy. This advanced course will allow me to do patient measurements of the afflicted (swollen) area, and do the specialized massage techniques and bandaging to help the patient's body reabsorb the excess lymph fluid. Several doctors and physical therapists in my area have told me they don't have enough trained people in this area to refer patients to, so I am excited to get this certification to begin helping patients even more than I already do! Even a small donation will help me, so thank you so very much in advance for your help!
