"Hello, I have a question. I want to know how to prepare in case the deportations start. I have three little girls, and I don’t know if it’s a good idea to go ahead and get a notarized letter that would allow someone who is legally in the country to bring my citizen children to me after I get deported to Mexico. What can I do? I am desperate."
The above is one of a hundred questions that immigrants and refugees in Tennessee are asking. One organization working on behalf of the immigrant and refugee community here in Tennessee is TIRRC, the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition. We are asking for your donations to help this organization continue to achieve its goals:
- Advocate for immigrants and refugees in local Nashville government and state-wide, such as the Tuition Equality Movement.
- Provide legal aid to immigrants and refugees so they may become citizens.
- Provide legal aid to immigrants and refugees who arrived in the US as children so they may obtain a driver's license, work permit and social security number.
- Continue to represent the interests of immigrants and refugees from Latin America, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
