Your support so far has been AMAZING! We're well on our way to getting our organization off the ground. If you didn't know, Brock Turner — See More

THE STORY:

SURVIVORS ERADICATING RAPE CULTURE dedicated to creating a world free of sexual violence.

Hey there! As you may know, my friend Kamilah Willingham and I started a new organization, Survivors Eradicating Rape Culture (SERC). It's very young and we've hit the ground running, but as a co-founder who has been doing it out of pocket, I need your help in making it a full-fledged, sustainable organization!

SERC is a new organization working towards a world free of sexual victimization. We work to eliminate sexual assault before it happens by providing survivor-led and survivor centered initiatives that focus on dismantling the norms and beliefs that allow and enable gender-based violence. We can't create a rape-free society from the top down. The perpetuation of rape myths is at the core of misinformation that allows the continuation of rape culture.

WHY SHOULD YOU SUPPORT SERC?

It's an organization for that's for and by survivors. We believe in a survivor-led movement to ending gender-based violence. Who better to fight rape culture than the people who are so well-acquainted with its dangers?

We already have a pretty impressive track record: Our organization is only two weeks old and our work is creating waves. We are prominent and experienced anti-rape activists best known for our work on campus violence.

While the issue of sexual violence has more attention than ever, the survivors of the most marginalized identities are largely ignored.  As an organization founded and run by two Black women, we are acutely aware of that and our work will center the experiences and needs of the most vulnerable and marginalized survivors.

WHAT WILL YOU BE FUNDING?

We are fortunate that we've been able to run this very young organization out of our own (small!) pockets, but we need your help to expand our work and make it sustainable. (It's really hard to try and dismantle rape culture in your spare time).

Here's what your generous contributions will go to:

  • Making us TOTES OFFISH (aka totally official). We are an incorporated non-profit but need the funds to file with the IRS for federal tax-exempt status. Your donations will help us cover the administrative costs of launching and running a non-profit organization,, which starts at about $500-800 dollars.
  • Expanding #JustSaySorryThe immediate and very strong response to this campaign by survivors shows that it isn't just Harvard and Tufts that need to apologize for failing survivors. With your funds we will be able to expand this campaign to work with survivors and allies across the country to demand their schools #justsaysorry.
  • LAUNCHING #SurvivorPrivilege. The award-winning hashtag has a new home! It is now officially a program of SERC, where we will use it as an educational platform to highlight the realities of the everyday burdens that survivors bear in the aftermath of violence. With your funds, we will be able to develop educational materials, including a website, video series, social media campaign.
  • MAKING PRETTY (AND PROFESSIONAL!) VIDEO CONTENT.  We will be able to use the funds to create engaging, informative videos about our campaigns, projects, and other rape-busting information. We have an (amazing!) videographer and producer on board that we would be able to compensate for their time.
  • OUR OFFICIAL PODCAST. Tired of people who just don't  "get it" talking and writing about sexual violence in the media? Yeah, me too. With your help, we'll be able to launch an anti-rape podcast featuring Kamilah and I as we conversationally recap the latest WTFs in rape culture and snarkily deliver much-needed #realtalk on the realities of sexual violence.
