THE STORY:

The Ethingtons wrote -

Our beautiful daughter, Bridget, has been diagnosed with a rare brain disorder, Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum (ACC), as well as other brain abnormalities. She has endured major surgeries, and has been in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for 7 weeks (and counting). The doctors say Bridget will have a life similar to that of a child with Cerebral Palsy, complete with developmental, cognitive, motor, and verbal deficiencies. As faithful and stubborn parents, we view this prognosis as an opportunity to do whatever we can to give Bridget an extraordinary life!

Will you help us build a beautiful life for Bridget?

We're raising money to pay for her extended hospitalization, home nursing care and supplies, and if possible, future things and wondrous experiences that will make Bridget's life beautiful: physical therapy, education, music, and Mint Oreos. :)

What You Can Do Right Now

1.    Give Bridget a Boost Right Now – We are delighted that an anonymous donor will match your gift dollar for dollar up to the first $5,000 raised!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Sincerely,
Richard and Catherine

The backstory:

This October, Catherine and I welcomed to the family our fourth child, Bridget. We recognized from her very first moments that her body was broken, and it would be several more weeks before we learned the true extent of her challenges.

Bridget’s initial diagnoses concerned her lower extremities: severe bilateral hip dysplasia, bilateral arthrogryposis and knee hyperextension, and bilateral calcaneovalgus ankles. We were discharged from the hospital, satisfied that time, casts, braces, and harnesses would make her whole. After a serious episode of breathing distress and cyanosis (turning blue), Bridget was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and has been there ever since.

While in the PICU, Bridget was diagnosed with Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum (ACC), a rare brain disorder, together with several other brain abnormalities.  She has endured multiple procedures: a tracheostomy (air), gastrostomy (nourishment), and fundoplication (reflux), effectively bypassing her upper airway for all vital functions.

Friends and family from around the world have offered their prayers, fasting, service, gifts, chocolate, dinners, and child care. Many have asked if there is more they can do, and we have created this campaign for those who wish to invest in Bridget’s future. With six weeks under our belt, the PICU bill is funny money by now. Layer on two rounds of surgeries, home medical equipment and supplies, skilled nurses, and all the trimmings, and you have an excellent recipe for a nervous breakdown. We're working hard to pay for these expenses and we haven’t given up hope.  We expect our cash responsibility to exceed $25,000 for 2015 and to extend well beyond that for 2016 as we seek advanced medical care outside of Nevada.

A dear friend has said several times, “we’re not doing this for you… we’re doing this for Bridget.”  We are overwhelmed and humbled by the outpouring of kindness and generosity toward Bridget and our entire family. Bridget’s struggle has taught us more about love, selfless giving, and kindness than we ever thought possible. We're forever changed and forever grateful to each of you for your role in blessing Bridget’s and our lives!

We love you!
