BENEFITING: CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF SOCIAL POLICY
Our Mission: Improve the lives of America's most vulnerable children by building a pipeline of leaders and innovators who will help transform the child welfare system.
The Problem: Child abuse and neglect are more prevalent and costly than most people realize - a problem hidden in plain sight. One in eight children are abused and neglected, and 400,000 children live in foster care without a secure family. The child welfare system is meant to protect and care for our most vulnerable citizens, but across all key measures, the outcomes are clear: this system is failing.
Half of all children in foster care won't graduate by age 18. Among foster youth, one in three will experience homelessness. 60% of young men will be arrested by their mid 20's. We can and must do better.
Talented professionals with diverse skills are needed to address the system’s biggest challenges. Today, they rarely find opportunities to deploy their talents to this critical work. Foster America changes that.
Our Approach: Foster America is a new fellowship program that brings together leaders and innovators from diverse sectors to transform the child welfare system. We believe by attracting new leaders to the child welfare system, then giving them the opportunity and support they need to innovate, children can experience dramatically better results.
We Need Your Help: Your donation seeds Foster America during our critical first phase. Currently, we are raising start-up funds to support fellowship recruitment and selection activities, design critical training and support activities, and develop the organizational structure that will sustain our movement over the long-term.
By donating to Foster America, you help to ignite a movement that will foster innovation and improve the lives our nation's abused, neglected, and orphaned children. Please visit our website to learn more. Thank you for your generosity.
