EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
Dear Friends and Family,
There is something about the Boston Marathon that gets me wicked excited. It’s the oldest and one of the most difficult courses in the world. Running this thing will also solidify my standing as a true New Englander. Sure, I have already done a lot to blend in here: I’ve grown out my beard, have a closet full of flannel, and regularly spend weekends trapping lobsters and ice fishing. But my time in Beantown will not be complete until I’ve run 26.2 in this sports crazy city’s most widely-viewed athletic competition.
To help me train in single digit weather and on icy trails over the next two and a half months, I’ve joined the Tufts Marathon Team (TMT) here at my university. I am running with TMT for many reasons. For one thing, TMT donates money to some great causes. I will be running to support nutrition, medical, and fitness programs at Tufts University, including research on childhood obesity at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. Since starting graduate school here four years ago I have developed a profound respect for Tufts University students and faculty, and am honored to support their efforts to tackle this country’s most urgent public health needs.
If you feel inspired to help support me run for these important causes, please consider a donation to help me reach my $1,500 fundraising goal at my personal fundraising webpage: http://www.crowdrise.com/tuftsmarathon2013/fundraiser/davidwallsh. If you prefer, you can mail in the pledge form to pay by check or credit card offline. If you have any questions about the Tufts Marathon Team, please contact Coach Don Megerle at email@example.com.
