EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
I am running in the Boston Marathon TODAY, and I need to raise $5,000 to make this happen.
“So…he’s finally gone totally nuts, eh?”
You may be asking yourself that question right now. And I wouldn’t blame you.
Those folks who know me may point out that KEVIN + MARATHON = ABJECT CALAMITY. After all, I have rarely been accused of being a poster child for healthiness and/or a granola based diet.
Notwithstanding my questionable fitness levels, I initially latched onto the idea of a marathon as a metaphor. But that only got me so far…figures of speech can’t keep you running on a treadmill, let alone black ice.
Running this marathon is something I’m attempting because I want to live a lesson that I hope to teach to my son: there is honor in trying your hardest, especially when the odds are stacked against you
For the last three months, I have been attempting to balance training for this preposterous race, juggling multiple jobs, and working on being a better father. The one (crucial) thing that I have let slip precipitously is that pesky little thing called “fundraising”.
Any help that you can lend towards this effort would be greatly appreciated, and would directly support nutrition, medical, and fitness programs at Tufts University (my alma mater), including research on childhood obesity at the Friedman School of Nutrition.
Thank you for joining me in this endeavor; your participation means more than I can say.
