ORGANIZER: Trustees of Tufts College
EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
I truly believe that public health is hard work and touches each one of us whether we realize it or not. I also believe that our health and quality of life now has a big impact on our future.
In this spirit, I am running the Boston Marathon this April for childhood obesity research and for public health programs. I am incredibly excited to be running my first marathon for these great causes but I need your help! Freshman year I challenged myself to run a marathon for kicks. Well, I caught the running bug in the process and this year I have enjoyed a handful of distance events and dabbled in cycling as part of training. Thanks to Tufts I enjoy running for the camaraderie, and on my own it has given me time to enjoy nature, explore, and push boundaries.
To give back what it has given me, I am raising funds to support the public health work being done at Tufts while doing something I love. The Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy rely on funds to research childhood obesity, a GLOBAL epidemic affecting 1 in 3 kids in the US. This is urgent now because these kids are at risk for developing health problems (that include but are not limited to Type 2 diabetes and heart disease) and because this trend is expected to rise to 50% by 2030 in the US. IN ADDITION, funds will go toward nutrition, fitness, and wellness programs at Tufts to continue to allow everyone in the community cultivate a healthy and active lifestyle.
Because I can't do this alone, I would love to have you join me in supporting these important public health works! Please contribute any amount you are able to. Your tax-deductible donation can be made online (to your right) or you can mail in the pledge form to pay by check or credit card offline. In appreciation of your generosity, and to make this a little more fun, your name will be on my raceday outfit and I will get a customized memorabilia mailed to you. Thank you so much for your support!
