EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
Mileage Tracker: 627
Dear friends and family,
After years of wanting, I am finally officially running the Boston Marathon. I have been inspired to run the Boston Marathon since I first watched my high school track coach brave the 26.2 miles as a 40th birthday present to herself. Some present! But since I have entered the world of long distance racing I have gained a new appreciation for the rush and the connection that these races bring to me.
I first attempted to run the Boston Marathon as a bandit while and undergraduate. Without planning or proper support I, no surprise, injured myself. To all marathon hopefuls, I do not recommend increasing your mileage from 35 one week to 72 miles the following. You will likely hurt yourself. The injury ended my training program, which devastated my aspirations to run the Boston Marathon. I did not try to run again for six years.
Fortunately this year I am running with the Tufts Marathon Team (TMT). TMT, with 100 runners, boasts the largest known collegiate marathon program in the US. But more importantly, it is a long time Tufts tradition which effectively inspires, prepares, and cares for its runners under the management of Coach Don Megerle. The support from Don and the other TMT runners has pushed me through the long runs in the cold, rain, snow, and darkness.
I am excited to represent Tufts and my residence halls, Wren and Carpenter House, on April 15th. I am also grateful that the money raised by TMT and myself will support nutrition, medical, and fitness programs at Tufts University, including research on childhood obesity at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. I am happy to be a part of something so big and to support something so necessary and worthwhile. During the 2012 marathon season, the team raised $565,290. Since its inception in 2003, the TMT has raised more than $3,572,629. This year my goal is to raise $5,000 to support the Tufts. I am grateful for the opportunity to finally achieve this long-time goal and I appreciate all those who participate and support the TMT and the Boston Marathon.
Please support me and the rest of the TMT for the 2013 marathon. You may donate online, or if you prefer, you can mail in the pledge form to pay by check or credit card offline.
If you have any questions about the Tufts Marathon Team, please contact Coach Don Megerle at firstname.lastname@example.org.
