Empowering the Women of Haiti
Organized by: Amy Donabie
one seed planted, starts to grow
where do all the diapers go?
throw-out diapers, rather expensive,
toxic, dangerous, makes me pensive
cloth is cheaper, safer, better
sat right down to write a letter
dear matt jones, my name is amy
worried about the Haitian babies
want to go there, give them hope
he says want to join our group?
forms filled out I’m on the team
bringing diapers, bigger dream
little seed it starts to sprout
how else can I help them out?
giving diapers, one small part
making diapers, that’s a start
here are diapers! you can take them!
let me show you how to make them!
cutting, sewing, serging, selling
income coming, business swelling
one small root is trip in June
arriving in the afternoon
meeting children, meeting nannies
meeting Haitian grampies and grannies
have team meeting, make new friends
find out what matt recommends
facebook page and emails sent
people’s hearts are evident
diapers coming, pink and blue
prayers and checks abounding too!
donated, bought they’re over-flowing
living room pile of diapers growing
time for leaving coming fast
funds received, amassed, surpassed!
few more diapers still receiving
they will come with firm believing
shots and passport, tickets bought
room for extras, not a lot
washing, washing all the diapers
thoughts of leaving make me hyper
excited, nervous butterflies
suitcase, don’t be oversized!
check off things still left to do
washing diapers through and through
scrubbing stains out, making sets
making list of things to get
diaper pins, clothespins, clothesline, too
the kind that will resist mildew
plant now sprouting second leaves
shooting up above the weeds
plant now ready for first bloom
when the plane takes off in june!
