BENEFITING: CLOUD FOREST INSTITUTE
On Saturday April 16th Ecuador experienced a 7.8 earthquake that destroyed many towns and infrastructure in the provinces of Manabi and Esmeraldas. Since that time Ecuador has registered over 700 aftershocks, dozens of them over 4.5. Again on May 18 there were two more quakes measuring 6.7 and 6.8. The country has united to respond but recovery will take years. Cloud Forest Institute (active in Ecuador since 1996) is facilitating placing people as volunteers with relief efforts in July and August 2016. We are fundraising to support communities and partner organizations to build shelters and provide food and water. The funds rasied with this campaign will be used in partnership with CAEMBA to build bamboo homes for victims whose homes collapsed. Each bamboo home costs $400. Our longterm efforts focus on promoting a sustainable redevelopment strategy that addresses local food, water and shelter security by stabilizing deforested slopes with food forests including native, sustainable building materials. Please join us this summer and thank you for your generous donation today.
