The decision to run the New York City Marathon for Team CdLS was an easy one for me, but the challenge of 26.2 miles will never be easy. And frankly, it shouldn't be.
I'm running for my cousin's daughter Caitlin, who was born in 2004 with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome. Since that time, I've watched her grow into an amazing young girl, despite the many challenges she's faced. I know that if I can harnass even one-tenth of the spirit and fight that she has shown over the years, I too can overcome this challenge, although mine pales in comparison. When I get tired, or sore, or lose the motivation to continue doing something that isn't easy; when I feel like stopping running - something many with CdLS may never be able to do - I will think of Caitlin and her determination, and I WILL NOT stop.
There may be no cure for CdLS, but you can help ensure services and programs for families are enhanced by supporting the CdLS Foundation—the only organization of its kinds in the country. By contributing to my fundraising efforts, you can provide support for Caitlin, her family, and the many others out there facing similar challenges.
