*SHE RESCUE HOME: Shape Her Earth, Shape Her Eternity*
Leigh Ramsey, Senior Pastor of CitiPoint Church, started She Rescue Home after a trip to Cambodia in 2006, where she was approached by a girl begging for help because her 10 year old friend was just sold by her mother and father to two men. She Rescue Home is a safe, secure home, located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, for young girls, ages 5-15, who are at risk or have been rescued from being trafficked. “There are complex issues that contribute to a girl being vulnerable to trafficking. Factors such as poverty, abuse, trickery or deception and unemployment or addiction in the family unit.” Each girl at SHE home is given counseling, medical attention, educational/vocational training, food, shelter, and clothing. Eventually, when the rehabilitation process is complete, the girls are re-integrated back into their family and Khmer society. SHE homes also work in partnership with local and international agencies in Cambodia to give the girls, their families and their communities opportunities to change their lives.
On January 14th, I will begin volunteering at the She Rescue Home in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for 6 months. I will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks in order to help out in any way I can. In addition to leading daily devotions and English lessons with both the staff and girls of the SHE home, I will be doing anything from administrative work and cleaning, to biking with the girls and helping them with homework. I am also looking forward to being able to apply my love for arts, sewing and design through doing arts and crafts with the girls and teaching them to sew (a valuable skill for a young Khmer girl to have in order to find work).
A year ago if someone told me that I’d be hopping on a plane to Cambodia to volunteer for 6 months, I’d have thought they were crazy. But now, I have never been more sure about a decision in my life. These young women have completely altered my perspective, and I haven’t even met them yet. I am honored to be a part of God’s work in their lives, and I’m anxious to see how they’re going to change mine.
Now, in order to be able to do all of this, there is alot that needs to be done first, including raising approximately $5,500. I have also prepared this small catalog of 7 handmade items. I will personally be making each item to order. 100% of the profits from the catalog and the amount raised on Crowdrise.com will go directly to funding my trip to Cambodia. Any help, big or small, would be greatly appreciated.
