EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
Why am I running the 2015 Boston Marathon to support Casa Myrna.....Because I believe everyone has the right to live, grow and thrive in a safe, respectful and nuturing environment.
Domestic violence will affect one in four women at some point in their lifetime. On average, Boston police make over 5,000 domestic violence-related arrests a year. On any given day, over 750 women and children in the state are living in a shelter program as a result of domestic violence.
Casa Myrna delivers solutions to end domestic and dating violence.
Founded in 1977 by community activists, thier services include:
Three Boston-based shelters for women and children who are homeless and in crisis due to domestic and/or family violence.
A holistic range of bilingual English/Spanish supportive services to help women in crisis rebuild their lives, including legal advocacy, parenting education,
counseling, housing search and stablization, economic empowerment education and assistance accessing educational/workforce development programs.
SafeLink hotline (877-785-2020), the only statewide, 24/7, multilingual domestic violence hotline in Massachusetts.
Education, outreach and public awareness campaigns on mass transit systems statewide about domestic and dating violence.
As the president of the board of Casa Myrna, I have seen how these services can build better futures for women and children struggling with many forms of adversity, including poverty, violence and homelessness. Please help Casa Myrna to continue to provide these vital services to our community by making a pledge to support my 2015 Boston Marathon challenge.
