BENEFITING: Save the Children
Countries Need Our Help.
This is a non-profit organization.
Around the world there are people in countries who are starving, in poverty, or are facing daily issues. Let's try and help these countries.
THE GOAL RIGHT NOW:
I want to raise money to help people who live in Somalia. Somalia is suffering a terrible famine. Thousands of people are dying because of hunger. Last year, East Africa was hit by the region's worst drought in 60 years and many thousands of people also died. We need to help these poor people. We need to help these people We need to help these poor people.
INFORMATION ABOUT SOMALIA:
Somalia lies in the easternmost part of Africa. Somalia is officially the Somali Republic and formerly known as the Somali Democratic Republic. Somalia is under Socialist rule and is a country located in the Horn of Africa. Since the outbreak of the Somali Civil War in 1991 there has been no central government control over most of the country's territory. The internationally recognized Transitional Federal Government controls only a small part of the country. Somalia has been characterized as a failed state and is one of the poorest and most violent states in the world.
On 20 July 2011, the UN Country Team in Somalia announced that parts of southern Somalia were experiencing famine. It was expected that the affected area would expand to include all of southern Somalia, from Hiran to the Jubas and Gedo, by the end of the year. At the end of July 2011, there were around 1,46 million internally displaced persons (IDPs), 6,900 asylum-seekers and 1,965 refugees in Somalia.
Poor rains and continuing conflict in Somalia are threatening the recovery from last year's famine, the charity Save the Children has warned. This could put hundreds of thousands of children at risk of hunger again. Last year, East Africa was hit by the region's worst drought in 60 years and many thousands of people died. At one stage six districts of Somalia were declared famine zones last year.
Over 2.5 million people in war-torn Somalia remain in crisis despite huge global aid efforts and the situation may worsen, the UN warned on Tuesday, one year after famine zones were declared there. Tens of thousands of people are believed to have died last year after extreme drought and war pushed several areas of southern Somalia into famine last July. Although the famine was declared over in February, dire conditions remained, with concerns the situation will decline in coming months due to poor rains, a likely late harvest and ongoing conflict.
Here are some other sources that I found that deal with Somalia. I'm going to start out by trying to raise enough money for Somalia.
THE OVERALL BIG GOAL:
The goal is to help solve specific issues or problems in poor countries around the world.
I hope to raise enough money to eventually get people like international students from the poor countries to come the the United States so they can go to a United States college up to four years for free. In turn these students would have to pledge in to a recorder that they will help their country when they return, and if they don't then they will have to pay for their college years themselves.
The international students would come to the United States with a specific issue or problem that their country is facing. Then the students would go to college to learn how to solve that problem. After their time is up, the students would go back to their country and start to solve the problem.
I feel like countries need more educated people since educated people tend to make better decisions.
FUTURE FUTURE PLANS:
If I can raise enough money, I was also thinking about a buddy system. The international students could meet/ chat with English speaking people who live in the United States, then the people from the United States could go to the international students' country and help them solve their country's problem.
(This is just a basic outline for what I hope to achieve . I will be updating more information soon.)
