Coach-Ed Inc. is a small new charity with a strong purpose and big goals. We were formed as a legacy for Edward Sayer, a young man who lost his battle with cystic fibrosis at the age of 22. He was a fighter, a scholar, an athlete, a true friend, and a coach. His sister, mother and friends grouped together to form Coach-Ed in his memory, to help cystic fibrosis patients live outstanding lives, just as Ed did.
Coach-Ed’s mission is to encourage, enable and support cystic fibrosis patients to live beyond the limitations of the disease. Through varied (and evolving) programming, including athletic sponsorship, scholarships, group events, adventure activities, and fundraising efforts, Coach-Ed emphasizes healthy, active, full lifestyles for cystic fibrosis patients. We also aim to increase social awareness of cystic fibrosis and the benefits of exercise, athletics and teamwork as part of a responsible approach to treatment management. Our programs target this active lifestyle, as well as provide a sense of community, support and as much levity and fun as possible for CF-ers.
Coach-Ed’s programs provide direct support to cystic fibrosis patients and their families – nearly 100% of our donations go directly to our CF-ers, by way of specific- need grants and scholarships. To date, we have funded summer sports camp, helped fulfill a dream of attending the London Olympics, successfully assisted a young man with CF become a certified personal trainer, provided clothing and supplies to a family in need, helped re-build a home devastated by Hurricane Sandy, provided college trip advice, and created a virtual support group for patients.
