Community Outpatient Assisted Services & Treatment (COAST) is also known as Involuntary Outpatient Commitment (IOC). We have found ourselves recently asking "What If.....?" and decided the Race for Respect is the perfect platform to raise funds for the IOC program to have an answer to the question "what if?", help fight the stigma surrounding mental illness, and assist in funds being raised for Ocean Cares Foundation. We also plan to make a run for the prestigious Cooney Cup. All funds raised by our team members through donations will go towards meeting the needs of IOC clients. We have a client who can not hear. This client can not participate in meaningful mental health treatment, and has a poor quality of life from her inability to hear. We found an organization that would provider free hearing aids if the client qualified, however the application fee was $250.00. What if......we had the money to submit the application? How could this change her life and her ability to participate in mental health treatment? A first responder, suffering from PTSD....financially strained, trying to support a family. The specialized program for first responders is about an hour commute, and with the price of gas, the client cannot afford to get there. What if......we had the money to assist the client in getting to the appropriate, first responder specialized care? IOC aims to identify and reduce the barriers to our clients ability to engage in meaningful, life changing mental health treatment. What if we were able to break down more barriers by having the funds to do so?
