Amanda Cadran is a wife, mom, sister, student, and teacher. Hailing from the great state of New Jersey, Amanda now lives in North Carolina where she has taught everything from Language Arts to technology since 2005. A lifelong "thinker" (aka, worrier), Amanda tends to peruse too many mommy blogs, but really encourages you to check out Type Z Moms for the real deal on what it's like to raise kids these days.
After helping many people with their resumes, magazines, manuscripts and books as the owner of her own copy editing business, Amanda decided it was her turn to write again. This is the first attempt at creative writing and first memoir for the former English and journalism major with many years of writing behind her. No other moment in Amanda's life, even working for the legendary diplomat Henry Kissinger after graduate school, or driving a conversion van around for a nationally touring bluegrass band, could persuade Amanda that this is the time to set pen to paper. This is her story, and she wants to raise awareness about postpartum depression and anxiety one person at a time.
In addition to running after her happy and busy little boy all day long, Amanda is a doctoral student in Instructional Technology at North Carolina State University where she studies how online instruction and other technology tools can help K-12 students learn and communicate with each other and their teachers.
In addition to almost 10 years of traditional teaching, Amanda has developed and taught online courses for the Duke TIP program, which broadens her teaching style, and encourages her to think about the way we learn and communicate through the use of technology. None of this compares to the best job she ever had (pre-mommyhood), working on the road for the greatest band in the land, Railroad Earth , the band whose song formed a great inspiration for this book.
Amanda grew up at the Jersey shore and received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA (‘02 and ‘03). She lives in Raleigh with her husband , who is a middle school math teacher in Wake County. Their son, Bryce, was born in May 2012.
