BENEFITING: PANCREATIC CANCER ACTION NETWORK
ORGANIZER: THE IRONMAN FOUNDATION
EVENT: Your Journey Your Cause 2017
In the last few years, Pancreatic Cancer has struck a particularly dissonant chord to me. Taking the lives of a couple really good men. My friend & neighbor John Koger on June 4, 2013 and my friend & work colleague Charlie "Chuck" Blanford on September 22, 2016.
From my perspective, both strong, kind, down to earth, family men. Each, quickly struck down, with little to no warning, in their prime retirement years.
This disease is referred to as the "silent killer" due to it's vague symptoms which, in most cases, delays diagnosis until it's too late. Carrying with it, a 5 year survival rate of just 9%
After completing my second Ironman three years ago, I wasn't motivated by the event alone anymore. BUT I WAS inspired by keeping the memory of John and Chuck alive. And I viewed Ironman's - "my journey, my cause" awareness and fundraising platform as a great way to fulfill that desire; SO HERE I AM.
Before August 27th: Please consider joining my monetary campaign to....as the pancan.org hashtag goes : #WAGEHOPE against this disease.
In addition to honoring John and Chuck through my training and competition, I've also set a charitable contribution goal of $1,575.
$525 at-large + $525 my own + $525 my employer's $/$ match of my own contribution.
Your tax deductible donation through this event website can be tagged with your own special tribute to John or Chuck.
