Coffee & Conversation - Stories of Homelessness
Organized by: liz lavorgna
Energy in Brattleboro surrounding the issues of homelessness is at a high. The Coffee & Conversation project strives to create conversations about how we connect as human beings, respond to community issues, and how art can stimulate the change we hope to see in Brattleboro's future. This project uses photography and videography to bring together two cross-sections of our community; those who are or have experienced homelessness and those who have stable housing.
Coffee & Conversation - Stories of Homelessness has a specific goal: To treat people as people, with respect and dignity. Instead of passing by a homeless person and ignoring them, to actually meet their eyes and ask how they are or even engage in conversation. Being homeless is a lonely, isolating place and sometimes even the smallest interaction can make all the difference.
Who are we & what do we want... We are a 7 person team that has dedicated our time and passion to this project because we want to make a difference in our community but we need your help. There are many costs in getting an art exhibit up and running like photographs, framing, event & equipment rentals, marketing and food for the multiple events during the month. We also want to give back to the homeless community (our dream is to purchase phones so they have a means to communicate-there is no state program to provide phones to the homeless in VT.) Our hope is that with phones, people can connect to the services they need or just to have a warm conversation on a lonely day.
Join the conversation and help us to create social change!
